Living in a Toronto apartment in the 90s, our founder, Tom Noon, noticed pigeons nesting on his balcony one spring.
Not thinking it would be a problem, he let the birds roost. Until they became a big problem. A big, dirty, smelly problem. Tom couldn’t use his balcony or even open his window.
Unable to find a service to get rid of his unwanted guests, Tom took things into his own hands. After being frustrated by the pigeons’ stubbornness, including them ignoring the usual tricks, like plastic owls, Tom knew he had to do something different.
Realizing that if the pigeons can’t get into the balcony, they wouldn’t be able to nest there, Tom designed and built a balcony netting screen in a sturdy frame. The screen let in the air and sunlight, but not the birds.
Tom’s solution worked so well, his neighbours soon began asking him to get rid of their bird problems. He became so popular, they nicknamed him ‘Pigeon’ Tom. And he got so busy with calls, he decided to go into business and used his nickname for the new venture.
Today, over 20 years later, Pigeon Tom has become a full time professional business under new ownership and operates with 10 fully trained and certified employees.
